Austin, Texas based indie band Back Porch Mary have released their fifth album, and it contains more of the grassroots goodness we have come to expect from these guys. With a sound that falls somewhere between Drive By Truckers and Cross Canadian Ragweed, Back Porch Mary play songs filled with powerful musical hooks and intelligent lyrics. Great songs like the refreshingly positive “No Bad News Today” and the catchy “I’m a Soldier,” and the ‘60’s vibe of “Fast Car,” every song is good in its own way.

“Drove Her to Drinkin” is very reminiscent of the Tom Petty sound, so good - and the pedal steel laced “Shot in the Dark” is brilliant as well. “The Vegas Song” is a real hoot lyrically, with some lightning fast guitar pickin.’

I can’t say enough good about this album or about Back Porch Mary. In a world filled with instant recordings, endless online music choices and a lot of the same ol’ same ol,’ I was thrilled to hear something that caught my ear, made me think, and left me grinnin’ like a stuck possum. Highly recommended.
